Unlocking the Power of Storytelling: My Journey in Launching a Creative Agency

Where Does a Juicy Story Get Its Juice?

Storytelling is more than just a communication tool; it’s the lens through which we view the world. Whether we’re reading a book, having dinner with family, or even playing video games, stories shape our perception of reality. This ancient art, rooted in the nursery rhymes of our childhood and the oral traditions of our ancestors, remains a powerful means of connection. In today’s digital age, storytelling isn’t just about portraying a glossy image of success. It’s about authenticity—sharing both triumphs and challenges. This shift towards vulnerability aligns with classic storytelling principles, where every hero must face adversity to succeed.

For over 25 years, I’ve been a professional communicator, working as a journalist, advocate, web designer, and content creator. My journey has been far from easy. Growing up with a Vietnam War vet and cab driver for a father and an immigrant mother from South Korea, I’ve faced personal hardships like divorce, the loss of family members, and even surviving a fire. These experiences have shaped my belief in the power of storytelling, not just as a means of expression, but as a tool for achieving goals. This belief has led me to take the leap and launch my own creative agency, Light Air Media, focused on storytelling, strategic communications, publishing, and consulting.

Launching Light Air Media: Spreading Light Through Authentic Storytelling

Light Air Media represents a new chapter in my life, where I’ve chosen to pursue my own vision rather than pushing someone else’s agenda. This decision wasn’t easy; leaving a steady paycheck to forge a new path was a risk I was willing to take because I believe in the transformative power of storytelling. At Light Air Media, our mission is to spread light in the world until it becomes the very air we breathe. In these heavy times, I believe we could all use a bit more lightness.

Our work at Light Air Media is twofold. First, we spread messages of joy and goodness through our own brands, such as Theory of Change, Sexy Dad Jokes, and Emojinality. These brands represent our commitment to publishing content—whether it’s movies, music, books, or podcasts—that uplifts and inspires. For instance, I’m thrilled to be releasing a new single for my indie rock band, Theory of Change, in the coming weeks. Second, we serve as consultants to like-minded clients, supporting the growth of influencers, creators, public figures, nonprofits, small businesses, and political entities. Our approach is simple: we use modern storytelling tools to reach modern audiences. From creating short and long-form content to launching podcasts that establish thought leadership, we help our clients build the digital infrastructure needed for a holistic user journey.

I’m incredibly excited for this chapter in my life, and as I launch this new venture, I hope to bring value to others by sharing what I’ve learned about the power of storytelling.
